Boo! I do exist!
I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving full of stuffed tummies and many blessings to be thankful for. Cody and I spent the morning serving at our church as they fed 5,500 people in need this holiday season. It was such a blessing to be apart of. We topped the day off with plenty of cooking and dinner with his family, dessert with mine, and walking into a crowded mall for some black Friday shopping! It was a good one.
Well, last year I made a few goals/improvements that I wanted to accomplish in 2013. It has been a busy year for me and I have been doing a lot of thinking about life all-around. I took a look at last year’s post on these goals/improvements and wanted to see how I did.
1. Changing my name
I did this! Right after Cody and I got married, I did not change my name. We were going to be traveling out of country and my passport said “Morris”, so I kept it for a few months. But I did. I finally changed is and dropped “Morris” completely. I have officially been Christa Suppe for a solid 7 months of our 9 months of marriage!
2. Be more creative
I haven’t done so well here. We have a second bedroom in our home but I have not used it as much as I would like to. I have channeled my creativity through decorating our little home as much as an apartment can be decorated.
3. Grow in my Photography
I feel like I am on a good track for this! In 2012 I shot my first wedding. I had a total of 5 weddings. Not a lot…I know. But it was my first year of shooting. This year I feel I did well in making steps to grow in my photography. I have had 8 weddings in 2013 + many other sorts of shoots that definitely keep me busy!
4. Become more organized
I kind of took a crack at this one. I have become more organized in my work flow, but definitely not my hours. I try to stuff in editing whenever I can and it’s not good. I work 4 10 hour days and try to get some editing in at night. We will have to work on this next year.
5. Invest in my own work
I think we made a good dent! Cody surprised me with a new camera on our wedding day! I know it wasn’t my personal investment, but since Cody and I manage our finances together as one, it was our investment in my business that I can tell you has truly paid off! We also purchased a 50mm f/1.2 this year which has also made a significant difference in my work.
6. Learn to be a good wife
I am working hard on this one. I think I am a good wife. I love my husband so much, but being a good wife isn’t something that just happens, you do have to work at it. Not that a bad wife comes naturally, but we are all human and we make human mistakes and say human things. Thinking of new ways to make my husband smile and happy is always on my mind.
7. Be a better woman of God
I feel like I am a leap forward here. I have grown so close to God over the last year and it makes me so happy. Again, it is always a work in progress as is any relationship. I want to continue of this positive path I am on.
I have had plenty of things to be patient for this year. This year has definitely taught me how to be a little more patient and I thank God for giving me those challenges and lessons. I still pray for this because I still want to be a more patient person.
9. Be more giving
I have challenged myself a lot here this year. Cody and I are givers. We tithe and give and it has changed my life. I see things a whole new way. Obeying what God says about giving has blessed our life and our finances in ways that some people think aren’t possible. God is our only explanation.
10. Be more adventurous
I am still working on this one. Truly!
Those were some general goals. I would say it was a good year, although some of those goals will need some more TLC! I have some great goals in the thought process for 2014. I get all giddy when I think about it and it makes me just want to jump the gun and run full-speed ahead— This is where that patience thing comes into play. Also, better blogging is in the works! I used to be so good at it and somewhere down the line, well, I don’t really know what happened! It is on the 2014 list, no worries!
